Photography Friday! Week 7 – Recap Of My NYC Trip

If you’ve been reading the blog this last week, you’ll know that I took a trip to New York City last weekend. It was my second time in the city, but really my first true vacation there. It’s funny – in popular culture, NYC is not just A big city, for many of us it’s THE big city. When I think about culture, trends, ideas, news, fashion, architecture, action, I think of NYC. Not Chicago, not San Francisco, definitely not New Orleans. So spending the weekend there was a dream for me. Yes, I know that makes me sound hopelessly simple, and maybe it’s true. After all, I did grow up in a tiny country town with just over 2,000 people. The first time I drove into New Orleans, I was taken aback by the millions of sparkling lights. I can’t imagine what would have happened to my brain if New York would have been my first real city.

Last weekend, I spent three and a half days trying to fit in a little of everything New York had to offer. I didn’t do that bad of a job, either. I met up with a friend for drinks, ate food from a street vendor, saw tons of tourist attractions, experienced the beauty of Central Park in full bloom, and even caught some cool street performances. The only thing I didn’t get to do was go shoe shopping, but we’ll fix that next time 🙂

Here are a few shots from my trip…

Met up with my friend Pete on Thursday night at a place called Whiskey Rebel. Had one of the best conversations I've had in years, and had a surprisingly low bar tab for NYC.

The next day I was sick as a dog, and didn't make it out of the hotel until 2pm. But I made it out, and after running some errands I wandered around in Central Park - it's BEAUTIFUL.

Dan took me to a cute little Italian place called Bella Napoli, and we had a huge dinner. This is mine - fresh calamari in a light tomato sauce, served over linguine.

After The Cloisters, we went to see the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, the largest cathedral in the world.

It's really big. This is The Man, taking a photo.
It’s really big – the length of two American football fields, and tall enough to house the Statue of Liberty. This is The Man, taking a photo.
Later that night we went to Times Square!

Next up, I’ll share photos from our trips to Madame Tussaud’s and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, plus some from South Street Sea Port and MY FIRST BAGEL IN NYC (ooohh!). Stay tuned!
