Aunt Irma

Today’s Weight: 160.4

It’s been an odd day from the very start.  First off, it was so cool out last night that for the first time in a month, I didn’t need to turn on the fan.  As a result, I slept like a baby and woke up refreshed and happy.  So happy, in fact, I cleaned the house in 20 minutes after waking up and before getting ready for work.  Cleaned the house.  In the morning.  And no one was holding a gun to my head…strange things are afoot.

As you might have noticed, I actually gained weight since yesterday.  At first, I was a bit miffed, but I’ve since come to terms with it.  Even though I stayed in my calorie range yesterday, I ate a lot of processed foods, including meat, which I know tends to stay with me for longer than most foods.  Also, I’m due to begin that time of the month any day now, and I’ve been reading various internet forums where many ladies chime in to say they gain about 4 to 5 lbs during that time.  The Mayo Clinic’s website has a helpful article on water retention during the menstrual cycle (and by association, weight gain).  The tips given are to exercise, drink plenty of water, avoid excess salt, and take calcium and magnesium.  I’m already doing most of this (not quite sure about my magnesium intake, I’ll have to check my vitamin bottles when I get home tonight),  so otherwise I’m just going to have to let go and let nature take its course.

In celebration of this magical time where I get to crave chocolate and rein in my inner Angry Anna, here’s a clip from one of my favorite TV shows, The IT Crowd.

I’m Nova

I have no “personal brand.” I’m not a girl boss, I’m not an influencer, and I don’t aspire to be powerful, inspiring, or rich. I probably can’t teach you anything, and there’s a good chance that there’s nothing at all of interest or use to you here. This is just where I come to talk about the random bits and pieces that make up my quiet life as a sober woman in her 40s. I’m engaged to the love of my life, have six (yes, SIX) indoor pets, and spend a lot of time gardening and hunting for thrift treasures. I also study classical voice (I’m a lyric coloratura soprano) and am deeply interested in all things spiritual and paranormal. Right now I’m trying to recover from career burnout and even out my personal energy, but my eventual goal is to become a medium and shamanic healer, using music to remind humans of the things that actually matter: connection, community, and loving all living things as though they were our own children. I may or may not talk about all of these things here (and sometimes all at once). Welcome!
